About Us

Abel Lumber is a family-owned / independent supplier serving builders, remodelers, and contractors across Texas. We specialize in doors, trim, and windows — and our door shop is the heart of the operation.

We're a small enough crew that you'll know everyone's name, and busy enough that no two days look the same. We take pride in units that show up square, complete, and on time, because our customers are building someone's home with them. If you like working with your hands, seeing a finished product at the end of your shift, and being part of a team that backs each other up, you'll fit in here.

What You'll Do

As a Door Line Specialist, you'll build prehung door units from the ground up — taking slabs, jamb stock, and hardware and turning them into finished, ready-to-install units.

  • Read and interpret work orders, cut lists, and door schedules to build units to exact specifications
  • Cut and assemble jambs, mortise hinges, bore for locksets, and hang slabs on the door machine
  • Apply brickmould, weatherstrip, sills, casing, and other trim as specified
  • Build and mull sidelites, transoms, and multi-panel exterior units
  • Inspect every unit for square, reveal, swing, and finish quality before it leaves the shop
  • Wrap, tag, and stage completed units for delivery or will-call pickup
  • Keep the line stocked, the shop clean, and equipment maintained and safe
  • Work with the sales and delivery teams to resolve order questions and hit ship dates

What We're Looking For

We hire at both ends of the experience range. If you've run a door machine for years, we want to talk. If you've never touched one but you're mechanically inclined and show up ready to learn, we'll train you.

Required:

  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately to 1/16"
  • Comfortable using hand and power tools (router, saw, nail gun, drill)
  • Attention to detail and pride in doing it right the first time
  • Reliable attendance and a team-first attitude
  • Ability to follow written specs and ask questions when something doesn't look right

Preferred (but not required):

  • Experience operating a door machine (Norfield, Ridge, Cambridge, or similar)
  • Background in millwork, cabinetry, framing, finish carpentry, or building materials
  • Familiarity with interior and exterior door construction and hardware
  • Forklift certification (or willingness to become certified)

Compensation

$18 to $28 hourly, depending on experience and demonstrated skill. Entry-level candidates start with scheduled reviews and raises as you get up to speed on the line.
